Swaziland was represented by two teams, football and netball. It was in football that the local side shone through and through. The team, which was under the guidance of Manzini Sundowns assistant coach Musa Manyatsi
In their first outing, the locals stunned favourites Zimbabwe 2-1 before fatigue caught up with them in the second game against Lesotho, which they narrowly lost by the same score line. They then bounced back before thrashing Zimbabwe again 2-0. They were then held to a barren stalemate by the Basotho.
In the semi-finals, the local boys met Namibia, who were fortunate to hold them to a 2-all draw in regulation before Swaziland succumbed to a 4-3 defeat after the dreaded and lottery-like penalty shootouts.
The locals seemed to reserve their best for the last encounter. They whacked Botswana 3-1 in the third play-off clash to settle for the bronze.
Until next week, Shukuma Swaziland!
